VIII. SUFFERING
In Jasenovac Wounded Christ was strict,
demanding grave responsibility and infallible memory. He made me relive the perishing of
my family and the attempts of the Righteous to save them. Neither the graves of my family
members were marked nor the Righteous named. He made me call to mind the hardships and
righteous deeds of this war. He demanded both memory and truth, justice and forgiveness.
Christ was determined not to put us at ease, he asked for full understanding and great
responsibility. Although Jasenovac was his own plight, only because Mary was his mother, he took me through the Calvary of Jasenovac and asked me to accept the Crown of Thorns at the cemetery in Vukovar during the burial of Croatian soldiers. It was the only way to regain the dignity of the past and make a pledge to the dignity of the future. |
